What does Level S/E cover?

2 teaching periods (approx. 90 minutes) with one goal: every participant understands the hazards of HV vehicles and knows how to behave safely.

⚡ Course Topics

  • What is high voltage? Definition from 60 V DC / 30 V AC (DGUV Information 209-093)
  • Identifying HV vehicles: orange cables, HV warning labels, type plates
  • Hazards from electric shock and arc flash – effects on the human body
  • Hazards from thermal runaway of Li-ion batteries
  • Correct behaviour with intact HV vehicles and when moving them
  • Behaviour after accidents, damage and suspected HV incidents
  • Who may do what? Distinction between S/E, FuP (1S) and Fachkundige Person Hochvolt (FHV) (2S/3S)
  • Emergency response and first aid in HV incidents

What Level S/E permits – and what it does not

Clear scope of authorisation after the training:

  • Safely move and park HV vehicles
  • Clean and prepare HV vehicles
  • Receive and hand over HV vehicles
  • Initiate first-aid measures in HV incidents
Not permitted: Technical work on HV systems, de-energising, voltage-freedom verification or work on HV components. These require at least Level 1S (FuP) or Level 2S (Fachkundige Person Hochvolt (FHV)).

Who can attend and how does it work?

Level S/E has no technical prerequisites – it is suitable for all employees regardless of their training or experience.

Entry Requirements

  • Suitable for all employees from day one
  • Language: English (German also available)
  • Online option: PC/tablet with camera and microphone
Legal obligation: §12 ArbSchG obliges employers to instruct all employees who come into contact with hazardous equipment. HV vehicles qualify as such – Level S/E fulfils this obligation.

FAQ – HV Training Level S/E

Does every employee need to complete Level S/E?
Yes – per DGUV Information 209-093 and the general employer duty to instruct (§12 ArbSchG), all persons who come into professional contact with HV vehicles must hold at least the Sensibilisierte Person qualification. This also applies to non-technical personnel such as vehicle movers, cleaning staff and reception employees.
How much does the Level S/E training cost?
From €89 per person excl. VAT. For larger inhouse groups – for example the entire workforce in one session – the per-person price is often significantly lower. Ask us for an individual group quote.
What is the difference between Level S and Level E?
Level S (Series vehicles) applies to series-production HV vehicles after Start of Production (SoP). Level E (Development) applies to prototypes, test vehicles and pre-production vehicles. In practice, both levels are often taught as a combined S/E training, since businesses frequently handle both vehicle categories – particularly at OEMs, Tier-1 suppliers and testing organisations.
Can the training be conducted online?
Yes – Level S/E can be delivered entirely as remote training (webinar/online) since it requires no practical exercises at the vehicle. For inhouse groups we still recommend an on-site session so questions can be demonstrated directly on the vehicle.
How often must the Sensibilisierte Person be renewed?
DGUV Information 209-093 recommends annual instruction. We recommend an annual refresher for Level S/E – especially when new vehicle models or HV technologies are introduced in the workplace. The refresher can also take the form of a shorter Annual Update Training.
Do I receive a certificate after the training?
Yes – all participants receive a digital participation certificate per DGUV Information 209-093 after the training. The certificate serves as proof for the employer, trade association and supervisory authorities and can be filed directly in the personnel file.
