Why is annual update training important?

HV technology is evolving rapidly. Regular refresher training keeps your team current on new vehicle generations, updated standards and changing workplace hazards.

Legal & Normative Basis

  • DGUV Information 209-093 recommends regular refresher training for all HV-qualified employees
  • §12 BetrSichV (German Industrial Safety Regulation) requires recurring, documented instruction for hazardous equipment
  • Many trade association audit criteria explicitly check for annual instruction records
  • Employer liability for accidents is significantly reduced with up-to-date training documentation

Practical Benefits

  • Updates on new HV vehicle models and battery systems in your fleet
  • Review of incidents and near-misses in the industry
  • Refresher on de-energising procedures and emergency measures
  • New PPE requirements and updated measurement standards
  • Consolidation of qualification record for personnel files and BG audits

Annual HV Update – Frequently Asked Questions

Is annual HV update training legally required?
DGUV Information 209-093 does not mandate a fixed annual interval, but strongly recommends regular refresher instruction. §12 BetrSichV requires recurring, documented instruction for hazardous work. Most trade association audit criteria check for annual instruction records. Many insurers and OEM supply-chain audits also require documented annual updates.
Can annual update training be delivered fully online?
For Level S/E and Level 1S/1E: yes, fully remote via video conference is possible and common. For FHV holders (Level 2S–3E) a hybrid format is recommended: theory and case studies online, followed by a short practical refresher at the vehicle. Fully online is also accepted for 2S/2E updates, but on-site is preferable for maintaining practical competence.
How long does the annual update take?
Between 1 and 4 hours, depending on qualification level and group format. Level S/E typically takes 60–90 minutes. Level 1S/1E takes 2–3 hours. FHV levels (2S, 2E, 3S, 3E) typically take 3–4 hours for the combined theory and practical refresher. We adapt the format to your schedule – including short blocks integrated into shift changeover.
What do participants receive after the update training?
Each participant receives a digital attendance certificate with the training date, topics covered and their confirmation signature. This certificate serves as documentation in the personnel file and as proof of fulfilled instruction obligations during BG inspections.
What happens if someone misses their annual update?
A lapsed qualification means the employee may not legally perform HV work until the update is completed. We recommend scheduling annual updates in advance and sending reminders at the 11-month mark. Ask us about a recurring annual update contract so renewals are automatically scheduled.
Can we book the annual update for our whole team at once?
Yes – group bookings for the annual update are common and cost-effective. We can run mixed-level groups in a single session, or schedule separate sessions for different teams. Contact us for a group quote.
