HV Qualification Record

HV Qualification Record (Qualifikationsnachweis HV): The employer's documented proof that each employee assigned to HV work holds the required qualification level under DGUV Information 209-093. Maintaining complete, up-to-date records is a legal obligation and is critical for employer liability in the event of an accident or labour inspection.

What the Qualification Record Must Contain

For each HV-qualified employee, the employer's record must include:

Why Qualification Records Are Critical

The qualification record is not merely an administrative formality. It is the primary evidence that the employer has fulfilled their legal duty of care when assigning HV work. Without it:

Keeping Records Current

A qualification record is only valid while the underlying qualification is current. The employer must actively track:

Can employees keep their own qualification records?
Employees typically receive their own certificate from the training provider. However, the employer must maintain a separate register of all HV-qualified employees and their qualification status. Employee-held certificates alone are not sufficient to demonstrate employer compliance with DGUV 209-093.
What happens if a qualification lapses?
If an employee's qualification lapses (because the annual briefing was missed, or the 3-year refresher is overdue), they must not be assigned HV work until the qualification is renewed. Assigning HV work to an employee with a lapsed qualification is a breach of the employer's duty of care, regardless of the employee's practical experience.
